Pallet Wall

Our boy’s cowboy room with pallet wall.

Pallet wall. Giddy-up! There is nothing more rustic than a pallet wall but it is also so beautiful with the different colors that are on display from the old wood.

These pallet boards used for this pallet wall were all natural wood and not treated. I decided that I would nail in each board because it would go better with the ambiance of the room. I started out by nailing up the boards along the top, closest to the ceiling, and the last board was cut to fit. I used the smaller piece that was cut from the previous board for the starting board of the next row so that the board rows never were lined up. I also had to plan out my rows because I don’t have the tools necessary to cut all the boards the same width, so I had to make sure that the boards I used on one row were the same size and any curved board, was either not used or it made the next row quite difficult!

Pallet shutters complete the cowboy look

This was a project I was glad to have finished! My arms were so sore from hammering in the nails for each of the boards across the entire wall! It is also quite a chore to take apart pallets and although you may have a HUGE stack of pallets proudly leaning in the yard, the amount of boards pulled off really don’t go that far. But it’s worth it, right? 🙂  Look at that beautiful variety in wood color. And pallets are usually free and just asking to be made into a project. My husband only slightly humors me as I drool over any pile of pallets we drive by.

As you can see, I also added pallet shutters to his windows.  It completes the look and also blocks out the sunlight for naps and when the sun is peaking over the horizon at 4 am during the summer months.  You can see more pictures of the pallet shutters here.

I also plan to make a barn wood door using pallets and old barn wood. What amazing projects have you built using old wood?
